JUWEL Phorax is a highly effective filter material that degrades phosphates in the aquarium. It effectively reduces algae growth and can contribute to improved growth in aquarium plants. Phosphate is regularly fed through fish feed and rarely degrades naturally.

Plants only need microscopic amounts of phosphate for their natural growth (freshwater: 0,05 mg / l, saline: 0,01 mg / l). Too much phosphate can in some cases trigger algae growth. Phorax consists of an aluminium mineral that binds dissolved phosphate by forming a water insoluble aluminium phosphate and removing it from the water. This makes the filter material very effective - it binds up to 12 mg phosphate per gram of Phorax.
