In the past almost every aquarium owner caught water fleas in the wild and fed them to their fish. Today, this is often banned for reasons of nature protection and many waters are so polluted that it is no longer safe to collect feed animals.

JBL uses reliable suppliers who have legal access to clean waters with safe water fleas. The water fleas shall be preserved by sundrying and packed immediately after catch. In this way, their valuable nutrients and dietary fibres are preserved for the benefit of aquarium fish nutrition.

Water fleas (Daphnia): They become 1-5 mm long and belong to the biological group Branchiopoda and thus the freshwater plant in stagnant waters. They are not related to gammarus, which becomes up to 2 cm long, looks quite different, lives in running water and belongs to the amphipodes. Cyclops, on the other hand, are much smaller (0.5-1 mm) and belong to the copepodes.

To extend the diet of the aquarium fish, it is highly recommended to supplement their main feed with freeze-dried feed animals. The following feed types are available for this purpose:
